Since last year, I immersed myself in the rich world of sports. 'guns/roses' is a continuation of the research I started in my former work 'arena, act three'. A research  between movement in sports and movement in dance, which leads to a deeper look into the nature of performance, with  'movement'  as being the protagonist. The experiment to introduce a different  language, that of sports,  stimulates me to create and sign another  sensitivity in my choreographic work.Movement is the anchor, the initiation of it all, I confide in it totally: in it's honesty and  self- sufficiency. As for the colour of my choreography, it is inspired by the inner personality of each performer, Tania Arias and one of the rare male soprano singers in the world : Hans Van Kerckhoven Ana Locking, spanish fashiondesigner strikes  their  presence by making for both performers a unique costume creation.

Arena/Act Three (2009)

In the arena, suspended out of time, two male bodies in wrestler costumes share the space, approach, embrace, or confront each other in a battle with sacrificial overtones. The changing lights of day and night shape them like ancient sculptures exposed to view. Outside the ring, a voice chants the sequences like rounds, organizing the elements of the mysterious ceremony.

Postures of combat, contemplation, and waiting alternate; fragments of struggle and aerial movements, arm locks, and hieratic gestures intertwine like pure abstract variations, charged with opposing intensities. It is as if these two dancers—belonging to the Merce Cunningham company—were suddenly possessed by the fury of a professional wrestler, or as if Vaslav Nijinsky were transformed into Muhammad Ali.

Ambiguous metaphors of an indecipherable ritual, their bodies create a tension between the sculptural and the functional, the physical and the aesthetic, tension and relaxation. The changes in ambiance, lights, and poses act as filters that multiply interpretations, blurring perception. At the heart of this confrontation, where embrace, rupture, and domination succeed each other, one feels the shock of desire, the contact of muscles, of skin, a muted erotic violence that resonates throughout the entire scene

'An Angry Boy' (2008)

An angry boy/act two unfolds from the conversation between a choreographer, a young fashion designer, and a classical musician. Chantal Yzermans invites Andrea Cammarosano and Adriaan Jacobs for a new artistic collaboration during her residency at Troubleyn/Laboratorium. Driven by the theme of 'obscurity,' the three artists work towards a confrontation with their own uniqueness, 'the fact that we will eventually have to part with our individuality.' Together with the dark and haunting post-punk young fashiondesigner Andrea Cammarosano, they create ‘AN ANGRY BOY/act two'. Raw sounds and movement images are confirmed by a coexistence of tenderness and violence.

The performance is a contemporary portrait inspired by Beethovens' Hammerklavier Sonate Opus 106, the score of which was created by the composer at the end of his life. This sonate was born at the turning point of Classicism and Romantic.

So it is with 'AN ANGRY BOY/act two' as it unfolds into two conflictual registers.
And so does the choreographer: finding herself as a creator anno 2008 into a new vacuum: on the threshold of what is established and what has to become.

An angry boy/act two is a contemporary swan song based on Beethoven's Sonata Op. 106, 'Hammerklavier.' It forms the second part of ONR-I, Allegory of Night, a contemporary triptych that develops as an altarpiece for the theater

ONRI, allegory of night (2006)

A contemporary theatrical icon based on Orpheus and Euridyce.

The source material for this project  is the 1950 black and white Hollywood Classic Movie ‘Sunset Boulevard’  by Billy Wilder. Images and Fragments  of this legendary film icon  will be re-processed  into an iconographical and theatrical action- performance by Chantal Yzermans.

The set design is by Martine Schildge.

This  collaborative of artists, directed by Belgian choreographer Chantal Yzermans willre-map a  nocturnal ride into a 39 minute theatrical action-performance.

In this progressive nocturnal promenade TIME takes them further and further away,

Each artist creates a world of illusion brought to live in a contemporary set of allegory of night. Going from image to thought, from perception to conception.
